SKIBIDI
Cambridge have announced the addition of SKIBIDI – the Gen Alpha word to their English Dictionary. You can watch my explanation of the word below:
The pronunciation /ˈskɪbɪdi/ is pretty obvious, but it will change slightly in different British accents with that final I being [i] in the South, [ɪ] in the North, and even diphthongal [ɘi] in Birmingham.
So what does Skibidi mean? Well maybe a better question would be “what DOESN’T it mean?”. It is used by Gen Alpha in all sorts of ways, as a noun, an adverb, an adjective, a verb. It’s a bit like how Gen X use the word F**K. It can be positive or negative.
Its origins are in YouTube series Skibidi Toilet. You can watch the entire first series in about a minute here, but be warned. Life (and indeed toilets) will never look the same again!
