Description
South Asian English sounds different to GB (British) English in its sounds, stress and intonation. This can cause problems of comprehension and expression in business and social environments.
In this course we cover the 44 sounds of GB English and focus specifically on the areas that are different in South Asian accents. In particular we focus on:
- Mouth positions and movements for vowel sounds.
- Tongue placement for consonant sounds (especially retroflex).
- Stress patterns in GB English compared to S.Asian.
- Connected speech.
These areas form the DNA of the accent, so with practice and repetition, learners gain control over their pronunciation skills and learn how to modify their accent.
