Study the English sound system with expert ESL pronunciation teachers to improve your IELTS score in the areas of listening, speaking and pronunciation.

Speaking and listening skills are 2 key areas for gaining a good score on the IELTS exam, and pronunciation is one of the specific areas you are assessed on in speaking, though it is often ignored in IELTS preparation.

At Pronunciation Studio, we can help to boost your score by working on the areas of your speech that are noticeably non-native. We can also give you some key approaches to making your speech sound clear and confident in front of the examiners.

How does it work?

We start with an IELTS assessment, where one of our IPA certified trainers will test your speaking and listening skills. We’ll then give you a diagnostic report on your current skills, detailing what we expect you to be able to achieve in the time before your test.

Boosting pronunciation skills profoundly takes time, so ideally you should start studying pronunciation between 3 and 6 months before you take the test. However, if you don’t have much time, a shorter, intensive training can give your skills a real boost in as little as a week.

Beyond IELTS, the benefits of learning pronunciation will help your studies and professional career within the English speaking world.

We’ll design a 121 program for you, focussing on 2 areas: pronunciation skills and exam preparation.

Most learners benefit from learning parts (or all) of the English sound system, and doing any aspects of accent reduction that are necessary – places where your mother tongue is intefering with your English.

We’ll give you activities to do to build up your speed and confidence so that when you sit the exam you are ready to perform at your highest level.

How long does it take?

It is possible to make significant improvements in exam performance even in a short time.

Getting some key phrases perfect, and learning the ten IELTS pronunciation tricks will give you a big boost before the exam.

To profoundly change your speaking and listening skills takes months of practice, this is why we recommend starting as early as you can before your exam (3 to 6 months if possible).

What materials are provided?

All learners receive ‘The Sound of English’ which is a practical course in the English sound system made at Pronunciation Studio. We’ll use this to work on your sounds. Additionally we’ll provide practice IELTS tests and more materials as needed. This very much depends on your individual needs.

For example, if you are likely to talk about a specific topic, we will make sure that you have a lot of material ready on that. If your English is hard to understand, we’ll work a lot on stress to make sure it is clear. Everybody is different, so we will prepare your training based on this.

Which course options are available?

All IELTS pronunciation learners should start with an IELTS assessment – this is a 90 minute session that enables us to test you on your sounds, intonation, and overall fluency.

After the assessment we will explain what options you can take and the likely outcomes of all of them. In general, as with anything, the more practice you do, the better you will perform.

If you can study regularly for 3 to 6 months before the exam, you should be able to make profound improvements if you take one or two lessons per week.

If you only have a shorter time, we can give you an intensive exam preparation course in a day, a week or a month.
